First Day of School Information
Dear Fielding Drive PS Parent(s) / Guardian(s);
All parents will receive an email with your child's class and homeroom teacher. (For parents who have more than one child attending FDPS, you will receive separate emails with class assignments.) Your child(ren)’s homeroom teacher(s) will reach out to you by email in the next week.
Medical Information:
If your child(ren) has a medical condition, particularly a life-threatening allergy, asthma, and/or any other condition, please submit an online Plan of Care form in addition to sending any medication to the office. Please note that students cannot bring any medication to school, and the office cannot administer any medication unless this form is completed.
Arrival:
The first day of school is Tuesday, September 2. Our school day runs from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Morning supervision begins at 7:45 AM; please do not drop your children off before that time.
On the first day of school, students should go to the playground at the back of the school after 7:45. There, classroom teachers will be holding up a sign with their name and grade, and educators will be available to guide students to their class line-ups.
Thanks in advance for ensuring that your child(ren) arrive before 8:00 AM every day.
Dismissal:
At the end of the day, students will be dismissed directly by their teachers, at which time they may meet their parents at the front of the school on Fielding Drive, go onto the school bus, or walk home.
Parking:
There is no parking available on school property during arrival and dismissal (the bus lane is for school buses and OSTA vans only). Parents may stop on Fielding Drive between 7:45 - 8:00 and 2:25 - 2:40 to drop off / pick up their child(ren). If you are arriving during the day to pick up your child for an appointment, please park in the visitor parking on the East side of the school.
Bus
Students riding the bus will be given assigned seats by the driver: students must remain in their assigned seats.
Please visit the OSTA Parent Portal to see the latest updates, including bus cancellations, and confirm the status of your child’s bus route. You are also encouraged to create a parent account on the site, which will automatically subscribe you to their mailing list in order to receive email updates regarding late and/or cancelled buses. If your child has a seat on the bus, we encourage you to send your child on the bus in order to reduce the end-of-day parking pressure.
Personal Electronic Devices (Cell Phones / Smartwatches)
There is an Ontario-wide policy on the use of electronic devices by students in schools. Here at Fielding Drive PS, we encourage students to leave cell phones and other electronics at home, but if a parent would like their child to have a cell phone (i.e. for safety when walking home) then those devices must be turned off and stored in a locker or backpack during the school day. Please note this also includes smart watches. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
Recess and Nutrition Breaks
As part of our balanced day schedule, all students will go outdoors for 20 - 25 minutes twice a day. It is important for your child to be dressed for the weather, as we will be outside for recess every day unless there is heavy rain or extreme heat/cold. Raincoats, hats and boots are necessary on rainy days as well as cold weather gear when the temperatures dip.
All the staff at Fielding Drive PS have been working hard in preparation to welcome your child(ren) back to school. On behalf of all the staff, thank you for the trust you place in us, and we can’t wait to welcome all the ‘Fielding Falcons’ back to school next week.
Stay safe, and we will see you soon!
Jeff Griesbach (Mr G), Principal
