Voluntary $20 FD PS Student Fee
In the past, Fielding Drive PS, along with other schools in the OCDSB and across the province, have collected voluntary student fees from families. These fees are used to support additional activities to enrich the student programs, such as guest speakers, special presentations, and to subsidize field trips. Our request is for a voluntary donation of $20 per student (up to a family maximum of $50). This fee can be sent electronically using Schoolcashonline, or sent as cash / check with your child(ren). We would like to emphasize again that this fee is voluntary, and information on which families choose to make this donation will not be shared (i.e. there will be no lists of names in the classrooms). Thank you in advance for considering this request.
Instructions for signing up with SCHOOLCASH ONLINE
SchoolCash Online is the OCDSB’s secure online payment system, it is available to pay for many items throughout the school year. Simply register through SchoolCashOnline. Once you are registered, you will automatically receive an email notification whenever items are available for payment or purchase.
When you register, please note that the system uses your child’s LEGAL NAME. Should you encounter any difficulties, you can call the Parent Help Desk at 1-866-961-1803.
Student Information Forms
Sometime this week, you will receive a paper copy of the information we have on file (address, parent phone numbers, etc). It’s very important that all this information is accurate, in case we need to contact parents in case of an emergency. Could you please check these forms carefully, and return them with any corrections if the information has changed. Thank you!
Meet the Staff at FDPS: Thursday, September 25
On Thursday, September 25, all FDPS families are invited to our annual ‘Meet the Staff’ event. We will be trying something a bit different this year:
- 4:00 - 5:00: Parents and students are invited to visit their child(ren)s classroom, to meet their teachers / EAs, and see their learning space;
- 4:30 - 5:30: Families are invited to the back field for a school picnic with staff. Tables will be set up for pre-ordered pizza pick up and there will be cheese pizza by the slice / drinks available for purchase. We will encourage families to purchase in advance via SchoolCashOnline. The costs for items will be:
- Cheese pizza slices: $3
- Full Cheese pizza (8 slices): $18
- Juice drink box (various flavours): $1
- These items will be available for purchase in SchoolCashOnline the next couple of days, and orders must be received before Tuesday, September 23. All proceeds from the pizza & drink sales will go to support FDPS students. Parents are also welcome to bring their own food and snacks. Please also bring lawn chairs or a blanket.
We hope to see many families at this event!
Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research: Friday, September 26
Fielding Drive Public School’s Terry Fox Run is set to take place this year on Friday, September 26. Last year, as a school, we proudly raised $800 for cancer research. This year, we are hoping that families donate a “Toonie or Two!” in Terry’s name so that we may reach our goal of $1000. If you would like to donate to the Terry Fox foundation, you can donate online here, or by sending in toonies or other amounts as we get closer to the event.
Visits to Arnott Park - Permission Forms
Throughout the year, teachers may occasionally bring their classes to Arnott park, which is right next to the Fielding Drive PS field. They might visit to play games that require more space, or for other outdoor learning activities. Could you please complete this form, giving permission for your child to visit Arnott park for school activities, with teacher supervision. Thank you.
Media Permission Forms
We would like to tell the community about the many positive things taking place in our school. We also want to strike the right balance between getting our message out and respecting the wishes of parents/guardians who do not want their children photographed or videotaped or their child’s name, work or photo displayed on the District’s or school’s websites. Therefore, could you please complete this form to let us know your preferences regarding sharing information? Thank you!
Extracurricular Sports - Concussion Protocol
Throughout the year, students in Grades 4 - 8 will have the opportunity to participate in different extracurricular sports, such as cross country running, soccer, basketball, etc. For all sports, the OCDSB requires that parents complete a Concussion Code of Conduct form, which ensures that parents are aware of and agree to the OCDSB concussion protocols for safety. If your child will be participating in any extracurricular sports, could you please complete this form here. Thank you!
Reporting Student Absences/Late Arrivals
Please let us know if your child(ren) will be absent or late by using our automated student absence system called SafeArrival. You can report your student's absence or late arrival by either using the School Messenger App, or by calling 1-833-202-1417. For more information on using this system, please read this document.
Arrival Time
Thank you to all the parents / guardians who support their child(ren) to arrive at school between 7:45 and 8:00 AM. This week, there have been very few students arriving after 8:00, and we appreciate your support in helping your child(ren) to arrive on-time.
School Council News
Be Part of Our School Community – Your Voice Counts!
As we begin a new school year, we warmly invite all parents and caregivers—especially those who are new to our school community—to attend our School Council meetings. The Council is a great way to stay informed, share your ideas, and help shape activities that support our students’ learning and well-being.
Next Meeting: Thursday, September 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the School Library
Elections for this year’s School Council will be held at this meeting. Parents and caregivers are welcome to nominate themselves or someone else, either in advance or on the night of the meeting.
Even if you’re not seeking an elected position, your voice and presence are just as important—listening, sharing, and connecting all help strengthen our school community. We encourage you to come out, get involved, and see how your participation can make a real difference for our children.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Monday, September 30)
During September, students and staff at Fielding Drive School will join people across Canada in observing National Truth and Reconciliation Day. Leading up to September 30th and beyond, students at RBPS will continue to learn about the legacy of residential schools and their aftermath, in an age-appropriate context. We will make use of resources provided by the OCDSB Indigenous Education team, and our librarian, Ms Holmes, continues to build our collection of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit resources. We will share more information on our upcoming activities as we get closer to September 30.
