Thank you to all the parents who joined us last week for our ‘Meet The Staff’ event. We really appreciated the high turnout, and the many families who were able to stay for pizza afterwards. A partnership between home and school is a strong indicator of student success, and we are grateful for the time you invested in building that partnership.

Scent-Free School

FDPS - like all OCDSB schools - is scent-free. Please ensure that your child(ren) do not wear scent, or use scented-products, or and that parents are not wearing fragrances or scented products when visiting the school. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Popcorn Fundraiser for Autism Classes

Once again, we will be offering Kernels popcorn as a fundraiser for the life skills program for the students in our Autism classes. The first term will run for 12 weeks every Tuesday, from October 14 to January 13. The cost for the term is $30 ($2.50 per bag of popcorn). Orders can be made through SchoolCashOnline, starting September 22. Orders for the first term must be received on or before October 6.

There are 6 flavours to choose from: butter salt, white cheddar, salt & vinegar, dill pickle, ketchup, and low fat caramel

Thank you for your participation and support!

Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research

We’re proud to share that our annual Terry Fox Run was a great success! It was wonderful to see students and staff come together for the first time this school year in support of such an important cause. Thanks to the generous contributions from our school community, we raised $575 for the Terry Fox Foundation and cancer research. A big thank you to everyone who participated and donated — your support truly makes a difference!

Fielding Breakfast Club

We will once again be offering a breakfast program at FDPS. Research has shown that children who eat a good breakfast are better equipped to learn and to focus. Each morning, participating students  will receive 1 fruit, 1 dairy product and 1 grain product. The program is FREE for all students who participate. If you would like your child to take part in the Breakfast Program, please fill out this form (a separate form is required for each child who will be participating)

The breakfast program is funded in part by the Education Foundation of Ottawa: if you would like to donate to the Education Foundation, you can do it here.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Tuesday, September 30)

Thanks to all the staff who engaged in meaningful classroom learning related to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The orange shirts displayed along the Walkley fence were completed in each class, and represented just a part of the learning and discussion that took place, as we work towards supporting the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

School Council News

Your Voice, Your School – Join Us!

All parents and caregivers are warmly invited to our next School Council meeting on Thursday, October 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the School Library or online. Together, we’ll be reviewing the budget and setting this year’s goals—important conversations where your input can make a real difference.

You don’t need to run for a position or have experience—just bring your ideas, questions, and interest in supporting our students. Come out, get connected, and help shape the year ahead for our school community!

Note: The FDPS School Council website - with information such as agendas and upcoming meeting dates - is available here.

School Photo Day: Monday, October 27

The FDPS School Photo Day will be on Monday, October 27. Students are asked to avoid wearing green on this day, because this can interfere with the green screen used to provide parents with a choice of background. Parents will receive a personalized link to view their child(ren)’s photos, with the option to purchase prints: we hope that all students will be able to attend on this date.

Intermediate Prayer Space

We are fortunate to be able to offer an interfaith prayer space to our intermediate students on Fridays during the 2nd nutrition break. There will be an information session later this week for interested students, to discuss the expectations for students accessing this space, and permission forms will be sent home for those interested in participating. Thanks to the staff, including Ms HAchem and Mr Ibrahim, for supporting this initiative to make sure Fielding is an inclusive space for all students.

Voluntary $20 FD PS Student Fee

Thank you to all the families who have supported FDPS through student fees. These fees are used to support additional activities, such as guest speakers, special presentations, and field trips. Our request is for a donation of $20 per student (up to a family maximum of $50), which can be sent through Schoolcashonline, or as cash / check with your child(ren). Thank you for considering this request.
